Space Access & Room Bookings

The Faculty of Applied Science provides resources that are available to student groups and to all undergraduate engineering students. Bookings for student groups may be made at any time, and bookings for non-student group use may be made up to two weeks in advance. Faculty support for Engineering Design Teams specifically includes granting access to equipment, machinery, and workspaces. The following section outlines the procedure for gaining access to, and utilizing the various resources afforded to student groups.

UBC EDT Prototyping Spaces - Who can access?

This applies to all EDT restricted spaces, including EDC, CHBE, Hennings and LMRS.

  • Students who graduate in May are considered current students and can participate until August 31 of that year.  Alumni may act as consultants, but cannot conduct any prototyping work.
  • No high school students or other members of the public (including alumni) are allowed to participate in design team activities.
  • Guests (including alumni, industry sponsors, tours, etc.) may come into restricted UBC spaces to with permission from Richard Colwell and the respective the facilities supervisor. To receive permission, please:
    • include purpose of visit, date and time, and duration, and list of guests; a kind reminder that guests are not allowed to participate in any prototyping/hands-on activities.
      • Note: written approval for in-kind sponsored services must be also be received before they enter the space
    • provide 3-5 business days' notice for approvals.
