EDT Requirements and Affiliation Details

Having an officially recognized Engineering Design Team will allow your team to gain access to many resources. To become officially recognized you must go through training courses, applications and safety training, as noted below.

Gain a comprehensive understanding of the steps required to officially recognize your student group with Applied Science, including the SuperApp and mandatory trainings. Affiliated groups are eligible to receive specific resources from Applied Science and its departments.

Student Group Approval and Renewal (SuperApp)

The SuperApp is an annual application process that student groups need to complete to be affiliated with the Faculty. To be eligible to receive resources (including funding, space, training and administrative support) from APSC and its departments, student groups or clubs must complete the SuperApp and required training.

Training for Engineering Student Leaders (TESL)

The annual Training for Engineering Student Leaders (TESL), formally known as Applied Science Student Leadership Symposium (SLS), is a mandatory orientation exclusively for Design Team Captains only. Each captain of the team must complete the TESL 2024 course individually. However, the course remains accessible for any toher execyutives within the Design Team who wish to utilize the resources. Who needs to complete TESL?

It is mandatory for all team captains/co-captains to complete TESL to be eligible for PAF Funding.

Engineering Team Leadership 

The Faculty of Applied Science has created a tailored Engineering Team Leadership course just for you! This course covers important topics relevant for your professional development as a student leader and in industry. We are excited for you to take this brand new course, featuring relevant engineering management examples and strategies.

Registration

APSC PD will register you into the course, once the team roster is submitted through SuperApp. 

Who needs to complete Engineering Team Leadership?

ALL Design Teams Executives including, but not limited to:

  • Captains/Co-Captains
  • Sub-team Leads
  • Safety Officers
  • Finance/Treasurers
  • Any Executive members

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) - Designing for Everyone

Designing for everyone course was created for to be completed by all general members on Engineering Design teams. The purpose of this course is to make UBC engineering a diverse and inclusive community.

Registration

APSC PD will register you into the course, once the team roster is submitted through SuperApp. DfE only needs to be completed once and must be completed during the Design Team onboarding process. If you are a leader and have completed EDI Training for Executives (CBE or Engineering Team Leadership) previously, you do not need to complete this course.

Who needs to complete EDI - DfE?

  • All NEW General Members

 

Safety Training

Safety is essential when designing engineering projects. APSC PD requires your entire team to take four (4) courses to ensure your team is using safe practices while in the workspace.

Registration

  1. Engineering Design Team Safety Orientation (must be completed annually, starting in September)
  2. WHMIS 2015 General Audience (must be reviewed annually, starting in September. New certificate not required)
  3. Preventing & Addressing Workplace Bullying & Harassment Training (only required to be completed once)
  4. Privacy and Information Security – Fundamentals Part 1 (only required to be completed once)

Who needs to complete the Safety Training?

Everyone that is a part of an engineering design team must complete the training listed above.
